Difference between astrology and astronomy was not always there. At one point in time they were considered a unified field. Gradually, as our understanding of the universe expanded, each discipline began to carve out its own space and demanded a focussed bandwidth, leading to the emergence of two distinct areas of study - astrology and astronomy.

While I was researching on this subject, I met with a respectable astronomer who disliked astrology. In due course I realised that all astronomers share this disdain. Astronomers are, in a way, scientists. So, anything which is not scientifically validated is outright rejected by them. After a couple few discussions, it so appeared as if the astronomers have personal vendetta against the planets—the sun, moon, venus, etc.—a relation gone sour, and these astronomers seemed intent on dismissing them entirely. Some observations:

  • It's evident that the tides are affected by the moon. And we are 70% water.
  • If you compare sun sign predictions with the traits of individuals, you’ll often find a strong correlation and are not some naive profiling.
  • Analysing people’s birth numbers and predicting based on it can reveal significant matches.

In retrospect, I wish I had presented these observations to them based on their birth details; I wonder why it didn’t occur to me at the time. Perhaps I was too focused on my mission. Why can’t they accept that there are higher forces at play? Science, while powerful, has its limitations. How something so vast came to exist from nothing is still a mystery to science. Just because something hasn’t been proven doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

I think a lot the dissonance seems to stem from the belief that astrology can't predict to the last detail. I’ve read instances where astrologers were asked to accurately describe the behaviour of individuals, like serial killers, and when they fell short, astrology was dismissed. This is a very narrow-minded approach to debunking astrology. It’s akin to claiming we don’t have a brain just because science hasn’t fully understood its complexities. Astrology is vast. If you look at the permutation and combination, you are in fact talking about many millions of permutations that possibly exist. Is just that hopes and expectations surrounding astrology are often so high—almost as if one expects magic—that even a slight margin of error can lead to significant discredit, overshadowing the many accurate predictions.

Is time for everyone, and especially astronomers, to allow some breathing room for concepts that may not have been scientifically, statistically proven, such as astrology. While the differences between astrology and astronomy will persist, fostering a more open and respectful dialogue between the two can lend more power and to understanding of the cosmos and its true power.
