What I am going to highlight over here are simple health practices with dramatic positive...
The ancient sages were very knowledgeable, far outreaching in their appeal when it comes to solving human ailments through natural healing mechanisms. And all of it without the availability of modern medicines we are used to today. It is not surprising that the scientists and intellectuals today frequently realize that what they have now known through deep research and investigation was already advocated by the sages some millennia back. Take for e.g. Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi, the noble prize winner in medicine for his research on Autophagy. Autophagy means “self eat”. It is the process by which the human body eats away its own damaged cells and unused proteins. It is a natural bodily process, one that also occurs when one is starved of food. The malfunctioning of this process is one of the main reasons for accumulation of damaged cells which results in various diseases including deadly ones like cancer. Here’s what Dr. Yoshinori observes:
“I have an observation here that ancient India had recommended a practice of fasting (Ekadasi) one day in a fortnight. Many religions follow this practice on this day as a penance for spiritual progress but without much idea on the biological and therapeutic benefits of this process. Through this process of fasting induced autophagy, our body repairs its damaged and degenerated cells or used up the proteins of the damaged cells for survival.”
So you see, whenever modern science seems to conquer a frontier and take a leap, it somehow ironically relates back to a quaint natural spiritual practice followed and advocated by our sages since generations. It was their closeness to nature that gave them the liberty to introspect deeper into life and living and understand the characteristics of the forces of nature. With their intuitive knowledge they could devise ways to help the human system. These sages, or rather seer-scientists were called ‘seers,’ because they could ‘see’ the knowledge.
Human beings are seemingly out of balance on many levels because we do not fully understand our connection to nature, the seasons, the environment, our food and lifestyle, and our self. This is why there is evidently an increasingly larger pervasion of chronic illnesses such as cancer, arthritis, diabetes, adrenal fatigure and other bodily dysfunctions. Idea is to go back to Mother Nature, in all that you do be it diet, work or lifestyle. That is where the real healing begins and that is how balance is achieved by nailing the root cause and not the symptoms. This blog on nature healing tries to unravel natural practices and ideas – recent as well as millennia old that have significant positive influence on one’s health. These practices together work on all levels – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual to eventually bring about your well-being .
